Root Canal Therapy – The Superhero Treatment For Your Teeth
At Palmieri Dentistry, we are passionate about restoring our patients’ oral health and doing all we can to help them keep their natural teeth. When we recommend that a patient schedule an appointment for a dental treatment, we encourage them to do so as soon as possible. Delaying dental care and necessary treatments can cause the problem to worsen. The last treatment we can provide to patients before a tooth extraction becomes necessary is a root canal.
What is a Root Canal?
Root canals have gotten a bad rap because of the way they are depicted in movies and on television. Due to advancements in treatment and technology, patients nowadays compare the entire process to a more involved filling.
When a dental condition is not treated properly, decay will continue to progress to the inside of the tooth, known as the pulp. A root canal is the process of removing the infected pulp, cleaning the root, and then disinfecting, filling, and sealing it all up. If a required root canal is not performed, the only other option is to extract the tooth to remove the infection.
Signs that Indicate a Problem
Your mouth will often give you a warning sign before you experience a problem or emergency. We recommend that most patients visit our office every four to six months for a routine hygiene examination. During these visits, we are able to determine if there are problems with your oral health. If you are between appointments and begin experiencing any of the following symptoms, we recommend visiting our office as soon as possible:
- Sensitivity when with hot or cold foods and drinks
- Swollen and tender gums
- Chipped or cracked teeth
- Discomfort in teeth that have fillings
Please don’t postpone treatment for a tooth that is causing you discomfort. If an infected tooth is left untreated, it will not heal on its own and cause more damage to your jaw and body over time. If you have not visited our office in Mooresville, NC recently or you are feeling any tooth discomfort, please call us today to schedule your next appointment. We look forward to seeing you soon!
